What is Advent?

Hey everyone,

What is Advent? Advent is a latin word that means “coming” and is a season of the Church Year that begins four Sundays before Christmas. Advent celebrates the miracle of God taking on flesh (incarnation) in the person of Jesus Christ, described in John’s Gospel: “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.  We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14)

Each Sunday we have a family light the Advent Candle and read a verse that is on the theme of that Sunday. This Sunday the theme is taken from Isaiah 7 and God coming to be with us, "Immanuel". All four Sundays leading up to Christmas we're taking Biblical themes from the Christmas Carol, "O Come Emmanuel". So read Isaiah 7:1-16 for this Sunday's theme!
